Hi! I’m Janie – owner, designer, cutter outer, maker, photographer, and many other ‘er’ roles at Daisyboots

I set up my business in 2015 creating as Daisyboots. I love collecting quirky and interesting fabrics and welcome any excuse to add to my growing fabric mountain! I like nothing better than putting different fabrics together and creating items that I would love to buy!

I’m often asked how it all began….

When I was very young, my gran taught me how to sew using her old treadle Singer sewing machine. Looking back to the early 60’s my gran was the ultimate recycler! Bits of string from parcels were wound up and stored in a tin for reuse, brown paper was neatly folded and clothes and fabric items were mended or the fabric was used to make into another garment. She taught me how to sew and how to look at an item of clothing and work out how it was constructed.

I now design and create many of my bags and textile figures from preloved items. Many of the jeans and shirts I use are no longer serviceable in their original form, with holes or stains. I love to be creative and give the damaged item a reimagined life – using many of the original features. I hate the thought that a pair of jeans with no knees or a ripped crotch end up in landfill.

It would be fair to say that my style has evolved into something different over the years. Yes, I still use eye catching, fun fabrics for my zip pouches, I still make reimagined denim bags, but as I have become a bit more sedentary I have also created textile art figures. These figures are a lot more time consuming to make and the character, name and backstory develops as I create them  (these stories are how I imagine my tiny pals – I sometimes give them animals, favourite foods, outrageous quirks and fun facts)!

Daisyboots designs and creates from a little studio in Edinburgh, hoping to bring a little fun and colour into everyday life with a range of fabric figures, bags and accessories – all to my own designs. All of my products are handmade by me in Scotland.
